San Juan Bay

San Juan Bay
The San Juan Bay is the busiest ocean port in the Caribbean bringing a good percentage of the region’s trade and over one million visitors a year on cruise ships. The bayside shops carry everything from gold jewelery to island arts and crafts. It can best be viewed from the pier area in Old San Juan, or from the romantic Paseo de la Princesa, or from El Morro. This is a great spot for catching a glimpse of some of the huge cruise liners entering the harbor through El Morro.

Altos de Chavón

Altos de Chavón
In Altos de Chavon, art is everywhere and everyone here breathes art. The artistic community here, dedicated to cultural exchange, has created an impressive architectural monument to the creative spirit. Located on the edge of a canyon that dramatically opens out onto the Chavon River, the Altos de Chavon Amphitheatre stands as one of the world’s most impressive open-air theatres. Come to catch one of the many important international stars who perform here.

Crashboat Beach

Crashboat Beach
Crashboat Beach is so named because of the rescue boats that departed from this location to come to the aid of fighter planes at the former Ramey Air Force Base. Beach festivals are often held here because the beach’s infrastructure includes boardwalks, barbecue pits, restaurants, playgrounds, telephones, picnic huts, showers and restrooms.

Cuevas de Bellamar

Cuevas de Bellamar
This 45-minute journey into the underworld takes the visitor through 300 meters of the 500-metre cave system known as the Cuevas de Bellamar. These caves were discovered in 1861 and soon became one of Cuba’s main tourist attractions because of the beauty of the secondary formations. Throughout the tour there are halls and galleries of incredible beauty, fountains, stalactites and stalagmites, crystallized domes and other formations bearing names such as La Fuente del Amor (Fountain of Love…

Los Tres Ojos

Los Tres Ojos
Declared a tourist attraction in 1970, the floors of these caves are filled with beautiful circular lakes fed by the Brujuelas, a subterranean river. The sulfurous waters of the first lake, discovered in 1916, are only 20 feet deep. The second, named La Nevera or “refrigerator” in English, drops to 15 degrees centigrade. The Women’s Lake, the third and smallest, is warm and shallow. A fourth lake, measuring 300 meters deep, is named Los Saramagullones after a species of ducks that inhabits it. Admission is about DOP20 for locals, DOP50 for foreigners.

Playa Balneario Luquillo

Playa Balneario Luquillo
Balneario de Luquillo is considered by many to be one of the most popular public beaches in northeastern Puerto Rico. And rightfully so, since it offers a full range of services. Here you will find cafeterias, public bathrooms with showers, access for disabled people, and an ample parking lot. This beach is also suitable for water sports such as jet-skis and wind surfing.

Zona Colonial

Zona Colonial
Bordering the Ozama River, this area boasts cobblestone streets and an impressive group of buildings dating back to the 16th century. The Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo permits us to travel back through more than 500 years of history and architecture. The palaces have been converted into fascinating museums, but many of the area’s oldest structures are now quaint bars, cafes and small hotels and restaurants. At sunset an air of enchantment and romance settles over the neighborhood, letting the the day’s worries fade away.

Blue Lagoon Island & Stingray City

Blue Lagoon Island & Stingray City
If you’re looking for a day trip that will remain in your memory forever, this is the place to go. Take a boat 30 minutes away from Nassau, and you’ll find yourself in a private island paradise. Snorkel, sail, shop, dine and dance to live calypso music. Visit the Stingray City amusement park if you want some undersea entertainment. Or wander away, down the endless expanse of white-sand beach. Admission is USD 20. Reservations are strongly suggested

Paseo de la Princesa

Paseo de la Princesa
Located in the southern tip of Old San Juan, this stylish promenade hosted a former Spanish prison, which now houses the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. It offers breathtaking views of the San Juan Bay and is bordered by a huge colonial wall. Several cultural activities are held here throughout the year. Walking the full promenade also offers views of Isla de Cabras, a beautiful small island located in the bay. The Paseo is the place for an afternoon ‘Piragua’, a traditional Puerto Rican sweet concoction made from ice and tropical fruit syrups.

El Yunque

El Yunque
One of the oldest protected areas in the Western Hemisphere, this pristine expanse looks much as it did when Christopher Columbus visited Puerto Rico 500 years ago. Start at the Portal Tropical Forest Center, and then follow a hiking trail to explore the natural splendors of this ecosystem, including an immense array of flora and fauna. If you are lucky, you may get a glimpse of the elusive blue, red and green Puerto Rican Parrot. The new Forest Adventure Tours program offers visitors to El Yunque the opportunity to hike along a trail with a guide.
